Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. When she was just five, she moved to Oxfordshire and enrolled at the Dragon School. When she was six years old, Emma knew that she wanted to be an actress and for a number of years she was a student at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught singing dancing and acting. She had already performed in a variety of Stagecoach as well as school plays by the time she was ten years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film adaption of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was discovered by Emma's Oxford Theatre teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through eight consecutive auditions. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. It also was the film that was most popular in 2001. Its opening days and weekends of the sales were record breaking. The film has been praised by critics for its film as well as the performance of the three principal young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British newspaper, called Emma's performances "amazing". Emma received the Young Artist Award as the leading young actress in the Feature Film. The actress was nominated five times for her part in the film.
